The video follows a camshaft through automatic straightening after carburizing or induction hardening. Because cam lobes sit at staggered angles around the shaft, the machine supports the part at its bearing journals while profiled rests clear the lobes; a traveling gauge then measures runout along the camshaft and a hydraulic ram corrects each bend with the shaft indexed between lobes.
Lobes and bearing surfaces must stay scratch-free, so contact pads are soft and the measuring head never rides on the cam profiles. The CNC closes the loop with springback prediction for hardened alloy steel, bringing automotive camshafts to TIR 0.02–0.05 mm and precision shafts to 0.02 mm or better — the control approach is detailed in our article on springback compensation after heat treatment.
