Solid square steel needs far more force than hollow tube, and this video shows a square steel automatic straightening machine built for exactly that. The rigid gantry frame and high-tonnage ram deliver controlled pressure to solid billets and bars, while hardened contact dies protect the square faces and edges from bruising during correction.
The machine covers stock within the Ø5–600 mm working range, with parts 100 mm up to 12 m long, and heavy-duty frames are available in 1000-ton class configurations for the largest sections. Measurement heads sample 2–3 points on short billets and 5+ points on long bars, achieving 0.10–0.30 mm/m straightness in 20–90 second automatic cycles.
Straightened square steel feeds forging shops, machinery builders, construction fastener lines and tooling manufacturers, who machine or forge the bars and cannot tolerate curvature that wastes tooling time or produces out-of-tolerance finished parts. The video also shows the machine handling both hot-rolled and cold-drawn square sections in the same shift, with the operator simply switching between saved material recipes on the control panel rather than reworking pressure settings by hand.
